Meet our Intern, Sophie!

This Summer we have been SO fortunate to have our first intern, Sophie, join the Joya team! With her help we have accomplished more than ever and it wouldn’t have been the same without her. Read below to get to know Sophie a little better!

Where do you go to school & what are you studying?   I go to Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. I'm studying fashion design and product development. It's an amazing program in such a great town. I couldn't be happier!

What’s your favorite jewelry trend? My favorite jewelry trend would have to be geometric shapes, like the Triangle Studs in the new collection. I am also a huge fan of gold. I don't have much silver jewelry.

Favorite Joya piece? I absolutely LOVE the Balos Ring! It has such an antique, yet modern look. Plus, it’s a great ring for layering, which is also an amazing feature of a lot of Joya products.

How would you describe your style? I would say my style is somewhat unique. I like to take a lot of risks; mix and match colors, use pleathers, denims and faux furs. My favorite piece of clothing is my bright pink Doc Martin military boots!

What inspires you? I can find inspiration in anything. I am always taking in the world around me. Sometimes an object with a certain texture or emotions will inspire me. Art and inspiration can come from anything and anywhere. Never limit yourself!

What would you like to do after you graduate? After I graduate, I would love to have my own line one day or become a creative director. Once I graduate, there are so many options I could have, so I'm not sure where my studies would take me at first, which is part of the excitement!

Dream vacation destination? My dream destinations would either be Paris or New Zealand. Paris would be so overwhelming to experience the history and see all of the architecture. It would definitely be a busier destination, opposite of New Zealand, which I would find to be more relaxing and also beautiful. It would be so fun to see where some of the Lord of the Rings was filmed.

What do you like to do when you’re not interning at Joya? When I'm not interning for Joya, I mostly do homework for the online summer course I'm taking through Stephens College. I draw a lot, see family and friends, and spend a lot of time with my boyfriend, Drew. I also love to read and of course, watch my Netflix shows.

What’s your favorite quote? “Never put anything past the determination of people to affect change." - Zandra Rhodes
